71% of a number is more than its 46% by 120. What is 30% of that number?

Answer: (e)

(71 – 46)% of x = 120

25% of x = 120

$x = 120 × 100/25 = 480$

30% of 480 = 144

Question :22

$5/9$ th part of the population in a village are males. If 30% of the males are married, the percentage of unmarried females in the total population is

Answer: (c)

Male Population = $5/9$

Females population = $4/9$

Married males = $30/100 × 5/9 = 1/6$

Married Female = $1/6$

Part unmarried female = $4/9 - 1/6 = 5/18$

∴ = $5/18 × 100$

∴ = $27{7}/9%.$

Question :23

If x% of 500 = y% of 300 and x% of y% of 200 = 60, then x = ?

Answer: (a)

$500 × x/100 = 300 × y/100$

⇒ 5x = 3y

⇒ $y = {5x}/3$ .... (i)

⇒ ${xy × 200}/{100 × 100} = 60$

⇒ xy = 3000

⇒ $x × {5x}/3 = 3000$ [∵ $y = {5x}/3$]

⇒ $5x^2 = 3000 × 3$

⇒ $x^2 = {3000 × 3}/5$

⇒ $x^2$ = 1800

⇒ $x = √{1800} = √{2 × 3 × 3 × 10 × 10}$

$x = 30√{2}$

Question :24

Mr Giridhar spends 50% of his monthly income on household items and out of the remaining he spends 50% on transport, 25% on entertainment, 10% on sports and the remaining amount of Rs. 900 is saved. What is Mr Giridhar's monthly income?

Answer: (a)

Let total monthly income of Mr. Giridhar be Rs. x.

According to question,

$x × 50/100 × 15/100$ = 900

x = Rs. 12000

Hence, monthly income of Mr. Giridhar = Rs. 12000.

Question :25

The difference between the value of a number increased by 25% and the value of the original number decreased by 30% is 22. What is the original number ?

Answer: (c)

Work with option, $(5/4)x - (7/10)x$ = 22

Only x = 40 fulfil the above equation.
